Welcome to Sense Ability Therapy’s first blog!
This has been a very exciting time for me, setting up a new business. For years I have enjoyed rehabilitating people in my role as an NHS physiotherapist. I have met so many inspirational people and have continuously been impressed by their tenacity, belief and ability to overcome all manner of challenges to regain their quality of life. It is always a privilege to be able to help these people. The NHS is a fantastic world beating system that is sadly under enormous pressure from the sheer volume of people coming through, this meant that I was often frustrated by the limits imposed by working within it. Often the focus was to discharge people home once they reached a safe level and not always their optimum level. In addition, cost limitations could prevent me offering people all the options available. Since moving to independent practice, I can now offer people all the options I can find and it is up to them if they want to proceed. It is also great to be able to work with people as long as they want to keep trying to improve. During my recent promotion of National Older People’s day some of the saddest comments I kept hearing was how, “No one can help me”, “they said there was nothing more that could be done”, “they have given up on me”. I find that very hard to hear as there is always something that can be done; sometimes expectations need to be reviewed and goals changed, sometimes other avenues need to be explored, but there is always a way to improve pain, fitness and quality of life.
My mission in setting up this company is to find that way…if you want to work to achieve it, I am going to work as hard as I can to get you there!
