Sense Ability Therapy CIC are pleased to be recognised as a certified Gait and Motion clinic. We are the only Neurophysio clinic in Devon to have access to Footscan and its advanced technology. Footscan is the industry’s leading pressure measurement device. It provides clinical gait and movement analysis. While you perform dynamic movements such as walking, jumping or balancing, Footscan analyses how your foot moves. It has been used in over 3,000 studies and is the state-of-the-art device trusted by elite athletes and clinics alike.

Gait and Biomechanics Analysis

Our Neuro specialist Physios can now offer you a detailed gait and biomechanics assessment. They will use their experience and clinical knowledge to complete a comprehensive analysis of your walking. This will include looking at any co-existing medical conditions, postural issues and a full body assessment.

Difficulties with balance and walking, as well as joint pain, can be caused by many complex issues and a full overview with clinical experience is often needed to fully manage the problem. Your feet are the foundation that supports your body. If they aren’t functioning optimally, the body will develop problems. Equally, other postural or musculoskeletal issues elsewhere in the body can lead to problems/pain when standing and walking.

Our clinicians will perform a full biomechanics assessment along with a gait analysis using Pablo to get a baseline measurement of your walking speed, ankle movement and stride length. We will then assess your balance and dynamic foot movements using Footscan. This can give us a clear picture of areas under stress and at risk of damage as well as exactly how your foot moves when you walk.

Following this, you will get a report of all the above information along with our recommendations. This may be in the form of an exercise programme, off the shelf orthotics or if required bespoke Orthotics.

Phits 3D printed Bespoke Orthotics/Insoles

Footscan technology also gives us access to Phits, the world’s first data driven 3D printed orthotics. Should your assessment lead to a recommendation for bespoke insoles, we are now able to offer this service rather than referring you on to a waiting list. The software can provide to the mm measurement of the amount of support needed for your feet. This is based on the dynamic information gained when you walk, rather than the static measures often used for orthotics, which provides a much more effective prescription. They provide a lightweight orthotic with superior comfort and have been designed be extremely durable, reducing the need for replacements. The 3D printed orthotics are made by industry leading specialists and we can access their highly experienced clinicians to consult on complex cases to ensure the best orthotic prescription for you.

Footscan and Phits can be found in specialist centres around the country and have been recommended by many elite athletes including Paula Radcliffe and is endorsed by the Royal College of Podiatry.
