Accessible Gym
Our welcoming, fully accessible gym is specially designed to support people of all abilities. Whether you are just starting your rehabilitation journey or looking to build on your progress, our equipment can be carefully adapted to suit your individual needs and goals.
We are proud to offer a wide range of specialist rehabilitation equipment, including the innovative Tyrostation system — and we are currently the only rehabilitation clinic in South Devon providing access to this advanced technology.
You can use the gym as part of:
- A supervised rehabilitation programme
- Small, supportive circuit classes
- Your one-to-one physiotherapy sessions
This allows you to continue building strength and maintaining progress in a safe and supportive environment.
We also welcome other health professionals who may wish to access our specialist equipment with their own clients (following an induction session). Please contact us if you would like to discuss this further.
See below for an introduction to the specialist equipment available and how it can support your rehabilitation.
Motomed Bike

The Motomed is a specialist therapeutic exercise bike designed so that almost anyone can use it. You can use it from a comfortable seated position, making it safe and accessible for all abilities.
It allows you to gently exercise your arms, your legs, or both. If your muscles feel weak or stiff, the bike can assist your movement to help you get started. As you grow stronger, it can gradually add resistance to help build strength and stamina. You can pedal forwards or backwards, depending on your needs.
The Motomed is particularly helpful if you experience muscle stiffness or spasms, as it can detect changes in muscle tone and respond automatically to keep your movement smooth and comfortable.
The built-in screen shows you helpful feedback, such as how fast you’re pedalling and how much each side of your body is working. This means we can identify any differences between your left and right side and tailor your programme to support balanced progress. You can also track your improvements over time, which many of our clients find motivating and reassuring.
Whether your goal is to improve circulation, increase strength, build confidence, or boost your overall fitness, the Motomed offers a safe, adaptable way to keep moving at your own pace.

Litegait
Regaining confidence in your walking can feel daunting — especially if you’ve experienced weakness, poor balance, or a recent fall. Our LiteGait body weight support system is designed to help you practise walking safely and with confidence.
Using a comfortable, secure harness, the LiteGait gently supports part of your body weight while you walk on the treadmill or overground. This means you can focus on your stepping pattern and balance without worrying about falling.
The level of support is fully adjustable. It can provide maximum assistance if you have very limited walking ability, or just a small amount of reassurance if you’re ready to challenge yourself and progress further. It can even be set to support one side of your body more than the other — ideal if you have weakness following a stroke or other neurological condition.
Treadmill training allows you to take the number of steps needed to help your brain and body relearn a smoother, stronger walking pattern. These repeated, guided steps are key to improving balance, strength, and overall walking confidence.
For many of our clients, LiteGait training is a turning point — helping them move from feeling unsteady and uncertain to walking with greater independence and belief in their ability.
Parallel Bars

Our parallel bars provide a safe and supportive space to practise standing, walking and balance exercises. They give you the freedom to move more independently, while still offering something steady to hold if you need it. As your confidence and ability improve, we often combine the bars with other equipment to help you progress further.

Boxing
Boxing-based exercises are a fun and effective way to improve core strength, balance and overall fitness. They are particularly well recognised for their benefits in Parkinson’s disease.
Your programme can include seated or standing boxing exercises, depending on your ability and goals. Boxing helps you work your arms and body together, and when done standing, it also challenges your balance in a safe and controlled way.
Upper Limb Equipment

Our upper limb area includes innovative neuro gaming equipment such as GripAble and MindMotion Go. These systems use interactive games that are tailored to your level, helping you achieve the high number of repetitions needed to improve arm and hand function.
The games make therapy enjoyable and motivating, while targeting movements that support everyday activities such as reaching, gripping, dressing and eating. We also use practical, everyday equipment to help you translate these improvements into real-life tasks.

Tyrostation
Our Tyrostation system offers some of the most advanced rehabilitation technology available.
Pablo uses highly sensitive sensors that can detect even the smallest movement. It can be used with your arms, legs, trunk and even your head, allowing you to practise a wide range of movements through engaging therapy-based games. Tymo is a specialist balance platform that provides detailed balance assessments and targeted training programmes to help improve stability and confidence when standing and walking
Nustep Cross Trainer
The NuStep provides another safe and accessible cardio option. Suitable for anyone able to transfer between chairs, it allows you to exercise both your arms and legs together.
The smooth, alternating movement helps build strength, stamina and coordination — all of which can support improved walking ability. Resistance levels can be gradually increased as your fitness improves.

Strength Training
Strength training is important at every age and stage of rehabilitation. Whether your goal is to stand more easily, climb stairs, walk further, or prevent falls, we will design exercises that are right for you.
We use a variety of approaches, including functional exercises, resistance equipment, weights, battle ropes and TRX suspension training. Every exercise is adapted to match your ability and progressed safely at your pace.

Plinth/Mat Exercises

We also have treatment plinths and exercise mats for assessments, stretching, hands-on therapy and exercises in lying or supported positions.
Your Personalised programme
Following a full assessment with a Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist, we will create an individual gym programme tailored to your goals, ability and confidence level.
Together, we will discuss the level of supervision that feels right for you and agree on the best package to help you move forward safely and successfully.
At every stage, our aim is simple: to help you feel stronger, steadier and more confident in your everyday life.
