MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY PHYSIOTHERAPY CLIENTS!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my loyal physiotherapy clients, both longstanding and new. This has been a very busy and hectic year for me, with a steep learning curve about how to run a business. Whenever things have got difficult, my treatment sessions have lifted my spirits as you all work so hard and prove what can be achieved by determination……..and listening to me, obviously!

Christmas is that time of year where we all try and take a bit of time off to spend with our families and friends and remind ourselves of what really matters in this complicated and busy life. I am the first to say not to worry about things like exercise, physiotherapy and diet at such a time, just enjoy yourselves!

Sometimes people get very depressed after this time off because they feel they have undone all their hard work and start to think that they will never be able to get back to where they were. Please don’t allow yourself to fall into that trap. Everyone can take time off without doing themselves any harm, even if you feel a bit wobblier or weaker, it is nothing that can’t be corrected quickly once you get back to your normal routine. The benefits of living life and having fun with loved ones is much more beneficial for the soul.

If it is something you are really concerned about then here is a little tip: just keep moving, little and often, whatever you are doing. Pull lots of crackers, play with your children/grandchildren, dance about whether you are in a chair or able to stand up and dance, laugh (a lot!) as it’s good for your stomach muscles, sit up tall in your chair when playing games or stand on one leg (if you can safely) while brushing your teeth, stretch yourself tall every day. Every bit of movement you do will help keep things ticking over nicely until you are ready to get back to your regular exercise routine.

I always take my inspiration from children. They never think about the need to do exercise, they just play and move continuously whatever they are doing (my son watches TV standing on his head for instance – not that I would especially recommend that but you get my point!) They also never get backache, have great posture and seemingly endless energy.

So here’s to the season for having fun and joining in with the children – Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all and thank you again to all those who have supported me this year.
